Hi Stampers :
Happy Sunday Friends !
I thought I would post for my Sunday Share on what all happened with my leg. Seems there was a little confusion on what happened since my hubby and daughter were both trying to keep everyone updated on face book.
Hubby and I were walking across the parking lot and I fell Thursday morning . I seriously thought I went down so gracefully but when I looked up & seen my hubby's face I knew something was really wrong Plus I couldn't feel my right leg at all . When I looked at my leg below my knee it was laying to the right of my thigh bent backwards .
Hubby some how got me in my car and drove to the hospital, and while driving my leg kept getting bigger but still no pain( yet) .
Once we got to the hospital they had to get me out of my car . They got me on a stretcher and wheeled me in to the ER cut my jeans off and put in IV then called my Doctor who did my knees back in 2005/ 2007 .
My Doctor came in and said he looked at the X rays and said he would not be able to do the surgery that it was way out of his league. he recommened (2) specialist one for reconstructive and one for Trama surgery .Praise God I had both doctors work on my leg .
The Xray showed I broke my FemurBUT my knee replacement from 2005 was in place and didn't break BUT where the femur broke there was nothing to attach a hindge to my knee to my femur . It was Shattered
The next step was to put my leg in Traction and get the femur straight enought for surgery .
Click HERE for another photo. Just know that it is gauze wrapped around the pins in that photo That's all with a Black marker I assume that marks the bottom of my knee or something ..
Next they had to drill into my bone with 2 pins and putting 20lb weights at the end of my bed to stretch my femur ( see photo) All this took place that day Thursday Jan 31, 2013 .
Friday Dr Hubers came in and said he was hoping to get me into surgery at 2 or 4pm Friday turned out surgery was at 4ish and I remember waking up in my room at 12:45 am Saturday..
I ended up with at least a 13 inch incesion with 80 staples (Click HERE for that photo) , a brand new larger knee replacement and a Hindge w/a new rod that goes up 5 inches into my femur Plus I needed 2 units of blood Plus Lots of Bruises on my arms and leg.
I seriously felt like a pin cushion with IV / blood draws/ drain tube/ Staples etc… All that to say PRAISE GOD I still have my leg.
I am currently have a home nurse come in 2 times a week and a Physical Therapist 3 times a week . I am not able to sit very long and or walk or do stairs ( Stamping studio is down stairs).doing most of my excerises in bed ankle bends / butt squeezes /knee presses and lots of ice for swelling .
I will be getting my Staples removed this upcoming Thursday . Looks like I need to be well iced for that proceedure. My follow up with my surgen will be the Feb 25th .
I am able to walk to the kitchen and back to bed and of course to the bathroom with a walker .
I want to thank you all for your sweet comments / cards/ well wishes and prayers . I still find it hard to even look at my leg with all the stitches seems like it really isn't my leg or it's something out of a horror film~maybe it will be better after the staples come out … we shall see .
One thing that Blessed me was that all of you know me and know that I am consistent in posting to my blog and when this all happened you all knew something was wrong since I had not posted in a few days . I can't make promises about my blog postings during my recovery But I will try.
Thank you all so much for your understanding
and all your prayers .
Here is my Sunday Share video for you today .
Until later… Happy Stampin !

What a terrible accident! Sending prayers and wishes for a smooth and speedy recovery. God Bless. ~ Lena ~
Oh Dawn, I am so sorry. Just a fall – and that result! You can be so glad that your husband has been with you. And the doctors seem to have done a really good job with your leg, but the staples got me shuddering. I hope it will not be too painful to get them out. Hopefully, they will give you quite a strong dosis of anesthesia and not just ice.
Do not even think about your craft room, concentrate on getting back in shape, that’s the most important thing at the moment.
Take care and greeting from Scotland
Nessie
OMG! Just you take care and recover well!!
How awful for you. Sending you hugs and keeping you in my prayers.
Dawn-

Dawn, hope that your leg heals quickly & that you can get back to what you love. I feel your pain as I’m in a similar situation. I had bi-lateral knee replacements on Jan. 23 and do not have access to my craft room until I can make it up the stairs. I follow your blog daily & was concerned when I didn’t see twitter updates. Take care & get well soon.
Prayers for a quick recovery!
OK, so ewww, ewww and EWWWW! As soon as you mentioned a Trauma Doctor, I nearly passed out. You sure did it big time Dawn and I hope that everything heals in record time and you can get your life back again. Thinking of you and sending well wishes.
I am so very sorry you are going through this! Prayers for your speedy and complete recovery. Take care!!
OMG. Take care of yourself and rest! Thanks for the update. We are thinking of you. God Bless.
Hi Dawn, Thank you for letting us know what happened to you. Thankfully your husband was with you; and I don’t know you personally, but I do know that with your positive outlook and your faith, you will have a full and quick recovery. I will keep you in my prayers.
God bless your sweet heart, Dawn. I am thankful u still have your leg, too, & that they were able to do such a wonderful job to fix it! I will continue to pray for u for a complete & quick recovery w/ minimal pain. Thank u so much for keeping us informed. Hang in there!!!
Prayers for your SPEEDY recovery. So sorry you’re having to go through this…but you’ll have a bionic knee now. Take care of yourself and I’ll look forward to when you can return full-force.
I think we will survive without your daily postings for a bit while you recover! Take care of yourself girl! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family!
I can empathize. I broke my femur in Aug (just above my artificial knee). I required donor bone because it was in so many pieces. I was in a wheelchair for 10 weeks. My husband brought my sewing machine and some of my stamping supplies up to the dining room table. What a mess but it worked! Hope you heal fast.
I’m praying for you Dawn!!!!!! I didn’t read the facebook postings or twitter or whatever your hubby & daughter posted. I thought you were in a CAR ACCIDENT! (Just me thinking that!) WHAT A FALL!!!!!!!! Was it icy? I can ONLY IMAGINE how you’re feel being basically bed-ridden when you are a BUSY PERSON!!!!!!! Take this time to REST & RECOOPERATE & PRAY! From a book I’m reading right now: ” God never wastes experiences,so I am sure He intends to use all of this in your life.” Pray about what God is trying to tell you right now through this time of not being able to go about your daily routine!Prayer time is NEVER wasted!!!!!! 🙂 GET WELL HUGS TO YOU!!!!!!! 🙂
Oh my goodness Dawn–you are so positive in light of such a serious injury…something I admire about you! Hang in there–it sounds like you had the best of care! The photo with the 80 staples almost took my breath away. Holding you up in prayer and hoping that the pain doesn’t overwhelm you! Dawn Hoffman
Well, you have had quite the ordeal! So glad there were some talented doctors that could take care of fixing that leg up. I don’t comment often, but I check the blog every day or so and you are so right, we knew something was not right in blogland.
I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Take your time in your healing, do what they tell you and when you can post and craft again, we’ll be here to welcome you back.
Sending thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery. I love your blogs
Dear Dawn, So very sorry you had to go through all of this. Praise God, all is coming along to put you back in shape. I have had two knee replacements and several falls in my old age, but so far, no further damage. I see from your story, just how vulnerable we are to instant change. You are in my prayers for healing and “patience”. God Bless you, Judy
Dawn … sending you hugs and prayers for a speedy recovery. I can’t believe that you didn’t feel any pain and thank goodness your hubby was with you when this happened. I look forward to when you are recovered and posting your videos with that greeting only you can deliver … “Hi Stampers”! Please email me your address so I can send you a card.
mmup57 at yahoo dot com
So sorry to hear of your accident.
You should post a mailing address so we can send you some of those lovely cards you taught us how to make. Something to entertain you as YOU recover. I am your biggest fan and as another lady said, “You’re worth waiting for!”
Take care…
Dawn, you are in my thoughts and prayers. Hope you have a speedy recovery. All those staples–you sure are a trooper! God bless.
Hi Dawn,
So sorry to read about you accident. I wish you a speedy recovery. Would love to send you a card but need your home address. I love reading your blogs, watching your tutorials, and listening to you. I read your blog everyday.
Your SU friend in North Carolina,
Martha
Hi Dawn its Dianne here from the UK love your blog , get well soon a big hug to you . God bless you xxxx
Dawn, I can’t believe what I’ve just read!
I haven’t been on the computer for a while because I’ve been so busy with workshops, a wedding preparations, classes and just not feeling well my self. However, I did notice that last time I checked your blog that it was a little odd that you hadn’t posted in a while.
Now, today (Feb 12th) I’ve learned that you fell, were in the hospital and now are laid up.
I’m so sorry to hear about all this but I’m so thankful that The Lord was looking out for you. He had your husband with you when you fell and He had two doctors who were available to do the necessary surgery to save your leg.
Now what you need to do is rest, get better and just take this time to dream up all the new and exciting cards you will be creating when you are able to get back down to your studio.
I for one, will miss your work, but I want you to recover 100% before you attempt to go down those stairs.
I remember when my mom fell while working at McDonalds. She shattered her ankle and was put in a cast for several months that had some type of monitor inserted into her bone. She was in a wheel chair and cruches so she couldn’t get around very good at all. However, she was not creating beautiful cards like you.
But on the bright side, she tood the time to seek The Lord and found delight in painting and she was pretting good at it.
So take care my friend and get well soon.
I’ll miss your work!
Oh Dawn! I was cringing just reading your description, so I can’t imagine how horrible it must have been to see your leg that way! Wishing you a speedy recovery. Take it slow and easy while you’re healing. Hugs!
Best wishes for your recovery, which will take as long as it takes. I just got a new knee and things never go quite as planned. I recommend doing the exercises they prescribe and getting to physiotherapy as soon as you’re allowed. It makes a big difference and hopefully you’ll get a physiotherapist as jolly as mine.
Hi Dawn,
Sending you prayers for a speedy recovery and thanking the Lord your husband was with you. Don’t even want to think about you being alone when that happened. So glad you have wonderful doctors also.
Take the time to heal properly. I will gladly wait for you to start posting again. I hope you will be able to come to Convention. Happy Valentine’s Day
OMG! I will so stop complaining about the respiratory bug I’ve been battling for a week (on top of learning to care for a diabetic cat…) after reading your sad saga! Prayers that it’s not as painful as it looks and that it will all be behind you in no time! Blessings, Sharon
My thoughts and prayers are with you. You have had extensive surgery and the only thing that is a priority now is taking care of yourself. I really enjoy your blog, but your blog right now is secondary to everything you and your family needs to do to give you the support and care necessary to get your recovery on track with as little stress to you as possible.
Best wishes during your rehab. I am young like you and have had two knees replaced this year because of arthritis and know what is involved. Your surgery was so much more complicated and ou will have so much more to address.
Please just take care of you. God bless.
Carol
Oh my!!! I finally got a chance to read up on your accident this morning. WOW! I can not even imagine the pain that you have been through. I will pray for your continued recovery. I can tell you are surrounded by so much love! Hang in there!
Wishing you well, I just found this out. With the passing of my dad I have been a little pre occupied myself. Things look like you are finally on the road to recovery though and I’ll keep you in my thoughts.
